Democracy Summer Iowa will be based in Des Moines. Fellows will mobilize in swing districts like Iowa’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Congressional Districts.
Jeremy Rosen, Regional Director
Jeremy Rosen is the Democracy Summer Regional Director in Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to joining Democracy Summer, Jeremy served as Executive Director of the ACLU of Iowa, and in a series of Washington, D.C.-based positions working to ensure that all Americans have
access to safe, decent, affordable housing.
Jeremy is passionate about Iowa progressive politics, promoting a new generation of progressive leaders, and coaching Little League baseball.
Josh Hughes, Senior Fellow
The proud product of a rural public school, Josh Hughes began volunteering for Democratic candidates in 2012, making calls and writing postcards for President Obama. Josh took an internship with the Iowa Democratic Party in 2014, and gained valuable experience in field work. Josh has clerked for State Representative Dave Jacoby during the 2017 and 2018 legislative sessions, and has served as the Advisor and Executive Director of the High School Democrats of Iowa since the group’s founding in 2016.
Josh is a resident of New Virginia, and currently attends Drake University, where he studies Law, Politics, and Society. Josh will be attending Drake Law School this fall while finishing the remainder of his four-year term on the Interstate 35 School Board.
Meet our 2018 Democracy Summer Iowa Fellows!
Jackson Geadelman – Roosevelt High School
I am Jackson Geadelmann, a senior at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa. I am active in varsity swimming, National Honors Society, and the Des Moines Youth Symphony. I am a part of the International Baccalaureate program, and am interested in international/local policy.
Lexi King – University of Iowa
I am a senior at the University of Iowa studying Health Studies. I am the President of the To Write Love on her Arms chapter at UIowa and I am most passionate about affordable and accessible mental health care for all Iowans.
Rachael McNerney – International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
I’m Rachael, a senior in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Des Moines, Iowa. I’m passionate about music, mock trial, and policy on the local and global scale. I hope to have a career in politics in the future.
Cody Woodruff is a rising junior at Iowa State University where he’s double majoring in Political Science and Speech Communication and involved in Student Government as Speaker of the Senate. He’s also a school board member in his hometown of Carlisle where he can give back to the community that gave him so much. Cody is passionate about young leadership, public service, progressive causes, and education. He enjoys stand-up comedy, reading and writing, and watching movies with his friends.
